My friend sent me an email and told me that one of you, that I sent to him, bought his two year old male setter. Thank you to all who emailed and called and asked about this dog, it was great talking with so many of you ! In PA. Judgeing The Invitational Championship Starting April2, 2012 By: Going to be in PA this coming week at 11:41 AM 3-31-2012
I am leaving for PA. tonight Sat. March 31, in the middle of the night.....as I have to have the Grouse Puppy Classic throphy ( That Long Gone Conway won last spring ) back in Marionville tomorrow before the puppy classic is over, then will be judging the Grand National grouse and Woodcock Invitational Championship until Wens. April 4th, and should be home Thursday, April 5th. I will have champions Boston and Buckwheat with me, if youi need to reach me to talk or pick up bitches, my cell is 603-723-4020 or call me at night at Dave Hughes( my fellow judge ) at 814-583-5202. On March 18 and 20th, 2012 we bred a strong, good size tri colored bitch by Multiple Futurity and Multiple Classic Winner ( and sire of CH Long Gone Buckwheat ) Long Gone Murphy. The bottom side of this female goes back to Stokleys Diablo Ace and 6x CH Stillmeadows Jim. This bitches mama was a full time guide dog in the string of Jay Lander in Kingfield, Maine, named Sage. This bitch is a real natural bird dog, and her owner is a former full time Maine Guide from near Skowheagan, Maine. This man Allen can be reached at 207-474-6100 or 207-399-3129. Beanie won the International Cover Dog Futurity as a young dog, won The Empire Open Walking Shooting Dog Championship on liberated birds, won the Grand National Grouse and Woodcock Invitational Championship in Michigan in 2010, and many, many other top notch field trials. Beanie is one of the premier setter bitches of our time and is simply an outstanding bird finder. Didget is by the legendary winner and producer, 5xCH Grouse Ridge Reroy. Dave and I shot a segment of film over Didget for one of Paul Fullers episodes of Bird Dogs Afield, and we MISSED many birds over her solid points, Thank goodness Paul edited them out. Thank you all for the tremendous response on the CH Boston ex CH Reroy female pups we had for sale. They are all gone and have been for awhile, I should have posted earlier, but have been very busy. I will keep this site updated better in the furture. Upcoming events here at Long Gone kennels, Dave Hughes will be here a week from today ( on Aug 29th ) and Paul Fuller will be here the same day, and we will film dogs on wild birds the next day, Tuesday Aug. 30th. for an upcoming episode of "Bird Dogs Afield " on my out door T.V. . com or myoutdoortv.com .Bird numbers are good, and getting better. I am seeing birds in places I have not seen them all summeer. Up here in the mountains of Northern NH woodcock begin to go in to "Stageing Covers", some call it lateral flight, some summer flight, but whatever it is...it creates great trainning, especially for young dogs. Roger Macphearson and I went into a cover we have not been into all summer last thursday, we pointed 15 woodcock in a little over a half hour, but most of the time we were looking for dogs on point! The weather is getting cool with the temp last night at 49. I just had case of 16 gauge # 8 Fiocchi's delivered...I am getting ready for Vermont grouse in just over 4 weeks!

These pups are wormed, had shots and are well socialized. One is tri colored..heavy on the ears...very handsome, the other O/w and reminds me of Roy himself, actually looks more like Leroy ( Reroys sire ). I feel bad that I didn't get right back to him, but all my calls that week were pretty chopped up, so if this happened to anyone else who tried to call that week, I am sorry!

Dave Hughes and Ryan Frame were here for a week and left yesterday ( along with a bunch of other low lifes...ie Todd Kalter, Roger Macphearson etc all...( only kidding guys!!1)...even in the heat we were finding good numbers of birds. We keep an inforaml count...so far we moved 147 woodcock and 38 grouse, but most of the grouse were broods...some big, some not so big....We still call a brood, one bird, when in fact it could be 10, and we can work multiple young dogs on it. So, now we are thinking grouse numbers will be good....Dave feels it is the most grouse he has ever seen up here in the summer...he says " you had a GREAT hatch"...some are quail size, some chucker size, which seems to indicate some renested. When it gets to hot in mid afternoons, we declare war on smallmouth bass and trout !!! I will keep yu all posted, enjoy your summer !

I have several litter picks coming to me from bitches that whelped in the last week or so. One in Southern NH by CH Long Gone Buckwheat out of a 2x CH Long Gone Boston female. Another two days old in Southern VT. out of Classic Winner Long Gone Brie ( she by 2x CH 3 x ru CH Long Gone George ex a 5x CH Grouse Ridge Reroy female) by 2x CH Long Gone Boston ( 6x CH Cracklin Tail Speed ex 8x CH Long Gone Agnes )Several other females are bred around the country and ready to whelp, we have first pick on all. Shot me an email if interested in buying my stud fee pup ( first pick ). On another note, Todd and I are planning our first trip to the woods this coming weekend..June 19 and 20...to work dogs and try and get a feel for how the hatch went. We have had a lot of moisture here in late May, so I am concerned about the grouse broods. Woodcock are tough and I don't envision a problem there and numbers should be good.

Lucy placed in the Grand National Grouse Futurity in Michigan with both grouse and woodcock finds. Lucy also placed in the one hour National Grouse Derby Classic in PA, with good finds on grouse. CH Long Gone Buckwheat ( plus triple Futurity Winner )( Double Futurity Winner Long Gone Murphy ex 2x CH and Setter award winner CH Long Gone Daisey ) is back at Long Gone Kennels after a winter of wild quail and woodcock hunting in South Carolina and Georgia. Many of you called over the winter months looking for "Buck" but we felt is was more important to continue his development by Todd hunting him , and shooting wild birds over his points. "Zee is a real fancy moving tri colored speed demon. I shot a lot of grouse and wooddock over her points this past fall. (You can see "Zee" hunting on Paul Fullers Bird Dogs Afield on myoutdoortv.com on the episode "hunting grouse and woodcock in NH with Dave Hughes over The Long Gone Setters".This was shown in New England on WZMY TV out of Boston...you will also see her mama, 7x CH Long Gone Madison also hunting on the same show ). "Hummer" is a winning setter we saw run at Hoffman last Feb. during the Carolina Lean Breed trials. We saw him point a covey of wild birds and just blister the ground for an hour ( not an easy thing to do on that sandy ground,that has no water!)His co owner, Gary Winall had to ride hard at the hour mark to go get him. We are planning on breeding our 7x CH / 7x RU CH Long Gone Madison ( 5x CH Grouse Ridge Reroy ex 8x CH 4 x RU CH Long Gone Agnes ) this spring to our CH Long Gone Buckwheat. If Maddy comes in season from Mid March on, we will breed her. If she comes in before that, we will skip this one, as we want her to have an opportunity to run her this spring, in the Invitational etc., and try for an unpresidented third Foster and Seminatore Award . We are really liking the CH Buckwheat pups we have seen so far,( we own two of them also ) all point their birds early, and with authority. I saw a couple a Daves kennel a week ago, that are natural backers also. We are running her here daily in the snow of Northern NH, with her half brother CH Long Gone Boston keeping them both in shape, and will obviously see when and if she begins to come in season. Madison is the defending Foster ( any breed ) and Seminatore Award ( Top Setter ) Winner as the top grouse dog in the country ( "Maddy" also won these in the 2007/ 2008 season ). We have a 12 month old, white and black, very fancy moving, setter bitch for sale as a started dog. This bitch " Claire " is out of CH Kellys Rainbowe Heidi ( 5xCH Grouse Ridge Reroy ex 8 x CH Long Gone Agnes ) who is a full sister to 7x CH and double Foster Award Winner, Long Gone Madison. " Claire "is very well started in her bird dog development. "Claire" was worked here in NH all summer on liberated birds, pointing, collar conditioned and whoa work on pigions. She was hunted in Ontario on grouse in Sept and the first week of Oct., she found a lot of birds and had "many" shot over her points, mostly grouse, but some woodcock. "Claire" was then hunted in Vermont with Todd Kalter for another week before she came here for the "Flight " shooting of woodcock, and grouse. Dave and I shot birds over her for a week before Dave went back to Pa for the PA Grouse Championship. I kept hunting her daily, she points and holds them until you flush. She hunts like a little machine, will run if you let her ( but I don't let puppies run ) but handles to voice fine. We hunted her on grouse until the snow got to deep. "Claire" was then sent with Todd to hunt wild quail and woodcock in the south for the winter. She just came back from Georgia, where she did fine on wild quail. "Claire" is in South Carolina with Todd for the next month hunting quail and woodcock ( season just opened! ). WE have three pups we are looking at for this year...One by CH Long Gone Buckwheat out of CH Texas Copper Top that we both like very much, whelped last Feb., who also got all of the above hunting exposure. A male by 6xCH Stillmeadows Jim ( frozen seame) who Todd just loves. And Claire. We also have a sister to Claire from a repeat breeding, who is very nice. Paul Fuller, noted outdoor bird dog man, just spent 2 days with Dave Hughes and I, filming The Long Gone Setters pointing grouse and woodcock in the thick cover of Northern New England.
